After the California fires,
Some folks want to "Do Something" like have a car wash and send the money, this also creates awareness and makes them feel like they did something, it helps heal from the week of tragedy and stress they saw on their TV sets. It makes things all better again.
As we speak, I am in training to ride from Canada to Mexico and then from San Diego to Virginia Beach. I intend to raise money for a cause myself. So, I worked out a trade to secure an expensive bicycle, as a hobby Internet writer, I had an Online Article Marketer pay for an all-carbon Ten-Speed in trade for putting his link at the bottom of the articles that I wrote. I paid the rest and accessories. When I am done raising money, I plan on auctioning the bike off in a raffle for some charity, as well, as I am sure I will be completely tired of riding it.
After the California fires, Eddie Rose, a College Student from Bethel University in Saint Paul, MN contacted me after hearing about the recent wild fires in CA and having decided to bike the Pacific Coast to raise money for families that have been affected by the fires in some way. He plans on selling pledges, but was unsure of the best way to go about doing it. He had read that I had been sponsored by a company and they bought the bike for me to ride on the trip.
