If you ride your bike out on the roads you will understand the importance of road safety. It isn't just up to car drivers to see you; if you don't take the necessary safety measures you will be putting yourself at risk of a serious accident, which could have terrible consequences for both you and the driver.
It is your responsibility to make yourself stand out when bike riding, especially during the night-time, and it really doesn't take much to do so. One of the easiest ways to keep yourself safe is to use bike lights, which will alert drivers to your presence on the road.
If you don't currently use bike lights you will actually be breaking the law. The rules set down in the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations, which were created in 1989, state that you must use a white light on the front of your bike and a red one on the back, as well as a rear reflector and reflectors on your pedals.
You will be able to buy bike lights from a number of different shops, both online and from your local bike shop. There are a few different bulb types though and each has a different purpose, so you will need to decide which is best for you before you buy.
