When you head to the store to actually purchase your new bicycle, you may be able to get a better deal by not purchasing the newest bike in the shop. If you are buying around the end of the biking season you can probably get a much better price on last year's model and usually it will have many of the same basic features. By knowing what to look for in a road bike you will be able to do to the salesperson at the bike shop and find a road bike that takes care of your needs for many seasons to come.
Here are some of my favorite bay area bike shops of 2010. This isn't a comprehensive review of their quality of service. This is just a survey of all the shops that kept me coming back for more in 2010.
